English author Thomas Love Peacock in 1829 foretold the Trump Administration
It’s a Kakistocracy!!
A few years ago I read Thomas Frank‘s The Wrecking Crew:How the Republicans Ruined Government Enriched Themselves and Beggered a Nation! The book provided a great analysis of how the Republicans govern (not well). And that was well BEFORE Trump! Frank wrote in The Wrecking Crew that a favorite Republican method to have a government agency fail is to have someone totally incompetent run the agency. Like Bush did with Brownie and FEMA. I never in my wildest dreams thought it would happen, like it has with Trump’s cabinet nominees.
Thanks to the following post from Salon. I know now that a government run that way is a”kakistocracy”. A kakistocracy is defined as government by the least qualified or most unprincipled citizens. Not that it helps the situation much!
Degeneration nation: It takes a village of idiots to raise a kakistocracy like Donald Trump’s
Donald Trump’s government will be “for the benefit of knaves at the cost of fools”
by SOPHIA A. MCCLENNEN
Ever since Donald Trump launched his campaign last year we have searched for the right word to define the sort of government he would lead. Would it be populist or fascist? Would he be a demagogue or a dictator? Would he be the first reality TV president? Would his new administration be an oligarchy, a plutocracy, or a kleptocracy.
Now that he has been elected and he and his minions are busily filling slots in the cabinet and government, we now have an answer to what form of government he will lead. And the answer is all of the above.
Luckily we have one word that sums it all up: a kakistocracy, which literally means government by the worst element of a society. A kakistocracy is a government by the least qualified or most unprincipled citizens. Trump plans to bring us the worst of both. Continue Reading
I must confess that I have not really followed the controversy between GMO and Non-GMO foods. All I know is that when you start to tinker with Mother Nature it usually doesn’t work out well. After reading the following from Sustainable Pulse I think I better find out more about the situation!!
From Sustainable Pulse: New Study Shows Major Molecular Differences between GMO and Non-GMO Corn
A unique new study published Monday in the scientific journal Nature has used molecular profiles to reveal major differences in composition between a GMO corn and its non-GMO parent. These findings question industry and regulatory position of “substantial equivalence” and have serious safety implications.
The new peer-reviewed study led by Dr Michael Antoniou at King’s College London describes the effects of the process of genetic engineering on the composition of a genetically modified Roundup-resistant GMO corn variety, NK603.
“Our study clearly shows that the GM transformation process results in profound compositional differences in NK603, demonstrating that this GMO corn is not substantially equivalent to its non-GMO counterpart. The marked increase in putrescine and especially cadaverine is a concern since these substances are potentially toxic, being reported as enhancers of the effects of histamine, thus heightening allergic reactions, and both have been implicated in the formation of carcinogenic nitrosamines with nitrite in meat products. Our results call for a more thorough evaluation of the safety of NK603 corn consumption on a long-term basis.” Dr. Antoniou stated. Continue Reading
